According to the latest monthly data released by the research institution Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, the cumulative installed capacity of battery energy storage systems worldwide reached 154 GWh in the first seven months of this year, representing a 27% increase compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the scale of new battery energy storage systems put into operation in July was 6,199 MW/18,817 MWh, of which China accounted for approximately 70%, that is, 4,568 MW/13,019 MWh.
The report data also indicates that as of July, the cumulative grid-connected scale of global energy storage systems has reached 274 GW/716 GWh.
China usually dominates the monthly data, but in June this year, it was an exception – Saudi Arabia put into operation a 2.5 GW/12.5 GWh battery energy storage project, making the Middle East region the regional champion in that month.
The largest single-scale battery energy storage project that was put into operation globally in July was located in Inner Mongolia, China, with a scale of 400 MW/2.4 GWh.
North America and Oceania (Australia) also performed well in July, with new battery energy storage projects put into operation exceeding 1 GWh in both regions; Europe added nearly 2.5 GWh of battery energy storage projects, achieving one of its best single-month results in history.
In Europe, Greenvolt Company put into operation a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage project in Poland, and SlovenskΓ© elektrΓ‘rne (SE) Company put into operation a 36 MW/72 MWh battery energy storage project in Slovakia, both of which were the largest-scale projects put into operation in their respective countries so far. In mid-July, industry media also reported that Germany, Estonia, Belgium, Denmark and Bulgaria jointly put into operation 692 MWh of battery energy storage projects.
In July, the new battery energy storage projects in Oceania mainly came from the second phase of the Supernode energy storage project deployed by Quinbrook Company (1 GWh).
The following table shows the situation of battery energy storage projects put into operation globally in July 2026:
